Driving to Essaouira from Agadir
Essaouira is three hours from Agadir on the coast road, and the drive itself is worth the trip: Taghazout, Tamri, Imsouane, cliffs and argan trees full of goats follow one another over 175 km of seafront.
By bus it takes five hours on a fixed timetable. In a car at €25 a day, with no deposit and unlimited mileage, the stops are decided on the way.

What to do in Essaouira
The UNESCO-listed medina, the fishing port and its blue boats, the Skala ramparts, the kitesurf beach and the thuya woodworkers' quarter. The town is entirely walkable once the car is parked.
Day trip or overnight
A same-day return is doable but long: six hours of driving. Many prefer a night there and a return inland via Smimou and Tamanar. Unlimited mileage allows both at no extra cost.

Is the Agadir–Essaouira coast road safe?
Yes, it is fully tarmacked and well used. It winds between Tamri and Imsouane: drive it in daylight, night-time signage is limited.
Where do you park in Essaouira?
Guarded car parks ring the medina, notably near Bab Doukkala and the port, for 20 to 30 MAD a day. The medina itself is pedestrian.
Can you do it as a day trip?
Yes, but that is six hours of driving. Leave before 8 a.m. to get a proper half-day there.
Is there a surcharge for leaving the Agadir region?
No. Mileage is unlimited across Morocco and no distance fee is charged, however far you drive.
